Missoula Public Health and the Missoula Valley Water Quality District are hosting one more “Last Best” Haz Waste Days Friday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Sept. 7. Residents can make an appointment to drop off waste from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The drop-off site is located at the City of Missoula Public Works Department, 1305 Scott St. in Missoula.
Residents can bring up to 50 gallons of household chemicals, including some un-labeled or unknown items. Testing for unknown items will be available onsite. A $10 non-refundable registration fee is required. Appointments are required, and no walk-ups will be accepted. “This is the last Haz Waste days, making it the best time to check around your house for household chemicals,” said Elena Evans, Environmental Health Manager at MPH. “Clean out that slate of questionable chemicals in your basement or garage while helping keep both your community and drinking water supply safe.”
Earlier this summer, MPH and Home ReSource celebrated the opening of the year-round Household Chemical Disposal facility. Up until 2020, the Water Quality District typically held Haz Waste Days every year. Staff recognized that residents may have accumulated a high quantity of motor oil or other substances they need to discard since the last event was held. This will be the final Haz Waste Days event, as the year-round facility is meant to address this need.
