Missoula Public Health to Host Documentary Screenings Encouraging Teen Safety in Digital Age
Missoula Public Health invites community members to two free upcoming screenings of films that feature important information about youth mental health in the digital age.
The first documentary, “Screenagers: Under the Influence,” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Sentinel High School Auditorium. This film examines the impact of our digital age on teens’ decision-making in relation to substances such as vaping, drugs and alcohol. A panel discussion will follow the film. The second film, “Screenagers: Next Chapter,” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at the Big Sky High School Auditorium. This movie follows physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston as she explores solutions for improving adolescent stress, anxiety and depression in the digital age. A panel discussion will follow this film as well.
The events are free and open to the public. Doors for both events open at 6:15 p.m., and pizza will be served first come, first served. Attendees will have the chance to win exciting door prizes, including trampoline park passes from Get Air Missoula.
The films are part of a trilogy produced by Starhouse Media that dives into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence. The films are grounded in teens’ current reality of being flooded by images on social media, movies and TV shows about vaping, drugs and alcohol. Geared toward middle and high school-aged students, parents and caregivers, the films debunk myths and depict strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision-making, support teen mental health, set limits and create healthy home environments.
