Water Quality District
The Missoula Valley Water Quality District was formed in 1993 to protect Missoula Valley’s EPA designated Sole-Source Aquifer.
Our Mission is to protect and improve surface and groundwater quality within the Missoula Valley.
WHAT WE DO:
- Annual monitoring of 44 dedicated monitoring wells and the 6 major streams within the district.
- Monitoring and water quality research to assess and prioritize water quality issues.
- Inspections of businesses that maintain quantities and types of hazardous materials that could contaminate or impact soil or water resources.
- Enforcement of state water quality laws and local ordinances.
- Public education on prevention of water pollution.
- Local review of state and federal cleanup sites.
- Maintaining a public health laboratory for water research and contaminant investigation
