Keeping our community and the environment free of solid waste, junk vehicles, and contamination is vital to community health. Property owners are responsible for maintaining their property in compliance with the rules and regulations to keep us safe.
Clean-Up Sites
Smurfit Stone Site
Smurfit Stone is a former pulp mill that is going through the Superfund process to address risks across the 3,200 acre site. Contaminants of concern onsite include metals, dioxins/furans, and co-planar PCBs.
More information can be found at the Frenchtown Community Advisory Group meeting the first Thursday of the month at 6pm at the Frenchtown Fire Station on Marion St.
The Water Quality District leads Missoula County review of clean-up sites to ensure clean-up protects our sole-source aquifer, limits risks to the community and environment, and that these areas can once again be put to use.
Junk Vehicle
In 1973 the Montana Motor Vehicle Recycling and Disposal Act was enacted for the establishment, control, operation, and licensing of public and private motor vehicle wrecking facilities.
This law requires commercial and county motor vehicle storage and wrecking yards to obtain an annual license, keep pertinent records and shield their junk vehicles from public view. This law also enforces removal of junk vehicles at locations other than motor vehicle wrecking facilities.
The Junk Vehicle program is funded through a small fee assessed during vehicle registration. State code defines junk vehicles and operation of the program at the state level. Vehicles released to the program are then remediated, harmful components removed, and then recycled.
If you have a junk vehicle you want to have hauled away for free, complete the Release of Ownership form below. If you have questions please contact envhealth@missoulacounty.us
Solid waste, garbage, kitchen refuse, etc. should be disposed of properly each week. Illegal dumping happens and while we work to find the responsible party, the property owner is ultimately responsible. See Regulation 3 for the specifics or report an issue via the form below.

\r\n\tSome visual components of WP Go Maps use 3rd party libraries which are loaded over the network. At present the libraries are Google Maps, Open Street Map, jQuery DataTables and FontAwesome. When loading resources over a network, the 3rd party server will receive your IP address and User Agent string amongst other details. Please refer to the Privacy Policy of the respective libraries for details on how they use data and the process to exercise your rights under the GDPR regulations.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
\r\n\tWP Go Maps uses jQuery DataTables to display sortable, searchable tables, such as that seen in the Advanced Marker Listing and on the Map Edit Page. jQuery DataTables in certain circumstances uses a cookie to save and later recall the \"state\" of a given table - that is, the search term, sort column and order and current page. This data is held in local storage and retained until this is cleared manually. No libraries used by WP Go Maps transmit this information.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
