Water Quality District

The Missoula Valley Water Quality District was formed in 1993 to protect Missoula Valley’s EPA designated Sole-Source Aquifer.

Our Mission is to protect and improve surface and groundwater quality within the Missoula Valley.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Annual monitoring of 44 dedicated monitoring wells and the 6 major streams within the district.
  • Monitoring and water quality research to assess and prioritize water quality issues.
  • Inspections of businesses that maintain quantities and types of hazardous materials that could contaminate or impact soil or water resources.
  • Enforcement of state water quality laws and local ordinances.
  • Public education on prevention of water pollution.
  • Local review of state and federal cleanup sites.
  • Maintaining a public health laboratory for water research and contaminant investigation
