How is artificial intelligence affecting young people and what can families and communities do to help?

As concerns about artificial intelligence continue to make headlines, Missoula Public Health and Missoula County Public Schools invite the public to a free screening of “Screenagers: Generation AI” on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Sentinel High School in Missoula. Doors open at 5:15 p.m., with pizza served before the film begins at 6 p.m.

Following the screening, a panel of youth and local experts will discuss the film’s themes and what they mean for young people, families and schools in Missoula. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and continue the conversation about the role of technology in young people’s lives. The film is most appropriate for students in grades 6 and up, as well as parents, caregivers, educators and other interested community members.

The event offers a timely opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence is affecting young people’s mental health and well-being, alongside their relationships and learning. As families and educators navigate a rapidly changing technology landscape, this event will create space to listen to youth perspectives, ask questions and consider ways to support young people.

The fifth film from the acclaimed Screenagers documentary team, Screenagers: Generation AI brings together candid stories from youth and adults, accessible science and insights from researchers, clinicians and educators. It explores both the potential benefits and risks of AI and offers practical tools to help parents, educators and communities shape how it enters their homes and schools.
