Missoula Public Health to Host Free Documentary Film Screening Highlighting HPV Epidemic

Missoula Public Health (MPH) invites the public to attend a free screening of the film “Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic” on Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. at the Roxy Theater in Missoula.

According to the CDC, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) causes nearly all cervical cancers and many cancers of the vagina, vulva, penis, anus, rectum, and oropharynx. Cervical cancers are the most common HPV-associated cancer among women, and oropharyngeal cancers (cancers of the throat, mouth) are the most common among men”. “The HPV vaccine can prevent more than 90% of HPV-related cancers when given at recommended ages,” according to the American Cancer Society.

“Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic” follows five brave women who share their stories about surviving one of the most widespread, misunderstood and dangerous viruses. A panel discussion will immediately follow the film. This event is free and open to the public. Space will be limited, so people are asked to reserve their tickets at TheRoxyTheater.org.

The HPV vaccine is a critical tool in the prevention of HPV-related cancers. The vaccine is available at the MPH Immunization Clinic at 301 W. Alder St. in Missoula. Walk-ins are welcome Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays by appointment only.
